Class “C” Operator

MAJOR FUNCTION

This is skilled work in the operation of a water plant.  This is a technical position, working independently under the general direction of the Public Works Superintendent.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed.   • Follows regular maintenance schedule and completes minor repairs.
  • Troubleshoots minor problems in the operations.
  • Performs routine lab analysis to control water treatment process.
  • Maintains daily production and lab records.
  • Performs minor maintenance on facility, including painting, cleaning, washing down facility and ground maintenance.
  • Performs other work as required.
  • Water meter reading as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of water/wastewater operations.
  • Knowledge of basic repair of pumps and various equipment.
  • Ability to read meters and charts accurately.
  • Ability to maintain reports accurately and legibly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor problems.
  • Ability to perform medium duty manual labor, lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Spanish speaking preferred but not required.

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

The required skills would normally be acquired through attainment of an associate degree or its equivalent, or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience.  Must have at least a Class “C” Florida water plant operator’s license or the ability to obtain the license in a reasonable amount of time. A valid Florida class B CDL is preferred.
